Setting up the Media Reviews Carousel

The Media Reviews Carousel showcases the photo and video reviews your customers have left, in a scrolling carousel. Because it displays only reviews that include media, it puts your most persuasive, authentic social proof front and center — shoppers see real products from real buyers rather than text alone.

In your Shopify admin, go to Vitals → Product Reviews and open the Settings tab → Media Reviews Carousel.

This widget has no on/off switch — it goes live based on where you place it. Use the Publish and position card at the top of its settings to choose between the Home page and the Product page, and turn on "Display automatically on your homepage" if you'd like Vitals to place it for you. Only reviews that contain a photo or a video are eligible to appear in this carousel.

Choosing which reviews appear

In the Visibility card, Add media to carousel controls how the carousel is filled:

  • Automatically — every review that contains a photo or video is eligible.
  • Manually — you pick the reviews yourself, and the carousel shows the 15 most recently sent ones. To add reviews, go to the Reviews tab, select the reviews you want, then choose More actions → Send to carousel.

Type of media to show narrows it further — Images only, Videos only, or Images & Videos (the default).

Title and rating

  • Widget title — the heading above the carousel, for example "Real Customer Photos & Videos".
  • Star rating — turn this on to show your overall rating alongside the title. Enabling it also reveals a control for displaying the review count.

Layout and appearance

The carousel adapts to the screen it's viewed on, and every value below can be adjusted in the widget settings:

  • Media per row on desktop — 3, 4, 5 or 6 (default 5).
  • Media per row on mobile — 1 or 2 (default 2).
  • Widget max width — a slider from 800px to 1800px, set to 1200px by default so the carousel sits neatly within most themes.
  • Aspect ratio of the media cards — Square, Portrait, Vertical or Landscape.
  • Corner radius, plus an optional card border and border color.
  • Star size, placement and color, the reviewer name color, and a Show "Verified" badge toggle.
  • Carousel arrow styles, and top / bottom spacing around the widget.

Good to know

Because the Media Reviews Carousel only pulls reviews that contain media, encouraging customers to add photos or videos when they leave a review will give this widget more content to display. You can prompt for media through your review request emails and the review submission form.
