[NEW] Showing GARAN Durability Labels on Your Products

The GARAN labels tab of the EU Legal Guarantee app shows the EU's GARAN label on the products whose producer gives its own durability guarantee — in the dashboard's words, "Show a producer's durability guarantee on the products it covers." The label carries three facts: how many years the producer's guarantee lasts, the brand or trademark, and the model identifier. Vitals fills them in for every product you pick, on the product page and under the product's line in the cart.

GARAN is optional and per product. Nothing shows until you turn it on, pick the products, confirm the producer's guarantee qualifies, and tell the app where to read the brand and model from.

How to turn GARAN labels on

1. Open the Vitals dashboard, go to the EU Legal Guarantee app and select the GARAN labels tab.

   Under "GARAN labels", switch on "Show GARAN labels".

   

   Under "Before you use GARAN", tick the three conditions the producer's guarantee must meet for the products you pick:

   • "Is free of charge"
   • "Covers the whole product, not only some parts"

   • "Lasts more than 2 years in total"

     Until all three are ticked, the tab warns: "No product shows the label until you tick all three." Once they are, it shows "Confirmed on [date]".

2. Under "Products with a producer guarantee", pick the products and collections, or add "Product tags" ("Products with any of these tags show the label."). Each list takes up to 250 entries; the dashboard suggests a tag to cover more.
3. Enter the "Producer guarantee" in years: "How long the producer's own guarantee lasts in total. It must be longer than the 2-year legal guarantee." Whole or half years only — the field rejects anything else with "Enter more than 2 years, in whole or half years (for example 3 or 2.5)." The default is 5.
4. Choose where the label reads the "Brand or trademark" from — "Product vendor" (default) or "Custom text" — and the "Model identifier" — "Variant SKU" (default), "Variant barcode", "Product title" or "Custom text".
5. Click Save. Open one of the picked products on your storefront: a compact GARAN strip sits near the Add to cart button, and tapping it opens the full label.

Several guarantee lengths

If different producers give guarantees of different lengths, click "Add another guarantee length" ("For products whose producer gives a guarantee of a different length."). Each guarantee gets its own numbered box — "Guarantee 1", "Guarantee 2" — with its own products, tags and years, and a "Remove" button. You can add up to 10.

A product that falls into more than one guarantee takes the first one that covers it: "A product in more than one of these gets the length of the first one." With several guarantees, each must name at least one product, collection or tag.

What the label says

The years come from the guarantee the product falls into. The brand and model come from wherever you pointed the two sources:

• "Brand or trademark" — your product's vendor field, or one custom text for every labelled product.
• "Model identifier" — the variant's SKU or barcode (so it follows the variant the shopper is viewing), the product title, or one custom text.

A product that cannot fill both the brand and the model gets no label at all rather than a label with a blank field. If your SKUs or barcodes are empty on some variants, switch the source or fill them in.

Where the label shows

• Product pages — near the Add to cart button, for the variant in view. "GARAN on product pages" picks between "Compact strip" (default; a one-line strip that opens the full label when tapped) and "Full label" (the whole label, always visible). The section description sums it up: "A compact strip that opens the full label, or the full label itself."
• Cart — "Show GARAN labels in the cart" (on by default) adds the compact strip "Under each covered product, on the cart page and in cart drawers." The Vitals Cart Drawer renders it; for another cart drawer use the snippet below.
• Checkout — not reachable. The checklist on the Notice tab keeps a permanent orange row about it: "The law asks for the label right before the order is placed. Checkout does not take app content on most plans, so the label shows on product pages and in the cart."
• Order confirmation — the Order email snippet repeats each labelled product's years, brand and model. Changing anything on this tab changes that snippet, so the checklist will ask you to paste it again.

The full label, and the popup the compact strip opens, always carry a "Learn more" link to the EU's own page about durability guarantees. If you fill in "Guarantee conditions link" ("Optional. A page with the producer's guarantee terms, linked under the full label."), a "Guarantee conditions" link appears next to it. You can rename that second link under "Guarantee conditions link text" on the app's translations page.

Place it anywhere

The "Place it anywhere" section ("Show the label in product cards, cart lines or cart drawers.") offers three snippets with Copy buttons: one for a product page (it replaces the automatic label there), one for a product card, and one for a cart line or cart drawer. Paste them "into your theme code, a Custom Liquid section or block, or a cart drawer's custom HTML". A placed strip shows the compact form; the section explains the small addition that shows the whole label instead. A placed label stays empty on products your GARAN selection does not cover.

Sizing

Under "Display", the sizing controls follow your choice for "GARAN on product pages". With "Compact strip" you get "Strip height" (20 to 48 px). With "Full label" you get "Label width" (320 to 400 px, in steps of 10 — the width cannot go below 320 px so the label's QR code stays readable) and, below "Margin", a "Link color" picker for the "Learn more" and "Guarantee conditions" links under the label. "Margin" sets the space above and below in either case. The label artwork itself is the EU's official file and cannot be restyled.

What is a GARAN label?

Which products should get one?

Can I enter 2 years, or 3 years and 3 months?

No. The field accepts more than 2 years, in whole or half years: 2.5, 3, 3.5 and so on. The label writes half years with a decimal comma in every language.

I turned GARAN on but no product shows a label. Why?

Check, in order: all three conditions under "Before you use GARAN" are ticked; at least one product, collection or tag is picked (the tab warns "Pick products, collections or tags, or no product shows the label."); you saved — the save is held while anything is incomplete; and the product can fill both fields. A product whose vendor is empty (with "Product vendor" as the brand source) or whose variant has no SKU (with "Variant SKU" as the model source) gets no label rather than an incomplete one. In the cart, a product picked by tag or collection may need a moment longer than one picked directly.

Why doesn't the label show at checkout?

Shopify's checkout does not take app content on most plans, so the label shows on product pages and in the cart instead. The checklist keeps this as a permanent notice while GARAN is on.

I changed a GARAN setting and the checklist now says "Update the notice in your order confirmation". Why?

The order email snippet carries each labelled product's years, brand and model, so it changes whenever your GARAN settings do. Open the Order email tab, copy the new snippet, replace the old one in your Shopify template and confirm again.
