Using the AI Summary in Visitor Recordings
Watching every recording end to end takes time. The AI summary in the Visitor Recordings app analyzes a session for you and turns it into a short, readable digest — so you can decide in seconds whether a recording is worth watching in full, and spot friction points without scrubbing through the whole session.
How it works
When you open a finished recording, the app automatically starts analyzing the session — you'll see an "Analyzing this session, typically 10-20s." indicator while the summary is being generated.
To read it, click the info button in the player header to open the SESSION INFO side panel, then switch to the Summary tab. The panel has three tabs in total — Details, Events and Summary.
No setup is needed: summaries are generated from the session's activity automatically when you open a recording.
What the AI summary includes
- TL;DR — a one-glance takeaway of what happened in the session
- Key moments — the notable events of the visit, each with a timestamp. Click a moment to jump the player straight to that point in the recording.
- Narrative — a step-by-step story of the visitor's journey through your store (use "Show more" / "Show less" to expand or collapse it)
- Drop-off — where and how the session ended, helping you understand what may have stopped the visitor from converting
Regenerating a summary
If you'd like a fresh take on a session, click Regenerate on the AI summary card. If a summary fails to generate, you'll see an error with a Try again option.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to click anything to get a summary?
No. Summaries are generated automatically when you open a finished recording that doesn't have one yet. Generation typically takes 10–20 seconds.
Why doesn't a live session have an AI summary?
Summaries are only created for finished recordings. While a session is still in progress (visible under Live Now), the SESSION INFO panel shows only the Details tab — the Events and Summary tabs appear once the visitor's session ends. Key moments are also non-clickable on a live recording, since there is no recorded timeline to seek through yet.
What is the "Drop-off" section for?
It describes where and how the session ended — for example the last page the visitor viewed before leaving. Reviewing drop-offs across several recordings is a quick way to find pages or steps in your funnel that lose customers.
The summary failed to generate. What should I do?
Click Try again on the AI summary card (or Regenerate if an older summary is showing). Generation stops after about a minute, so a long session may show "Timed out while waiting for AI summary. Please try again." — a retry usually resolves it. If it keeps failing for a specific recording, reach out to our support team.
Does the AI summary replace watching the recording?
It's best used as a filter: read the TL;DR and Key moments first, then watch the full recording only when something needs a closer look — for example a confusing checkout step or a bug the visitor ran into.
